Individual pages can be deactivated (hidden) so that they no longer appear in your navigation links.

This means that you can work on a page (and show it to people by giving them it’s unique address) before making it live on your site. It also means that you can keep some pages as ‘subpages’ for secondary information that you don’t want to appear in your main navigation links.
